Am I the only one who has to look up wiki and other non-HTML markup tags every time I use them?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of them?

Wasn't Markdown meant to deal with that? And isn't HTML actually more cumbersome than most other mark-up languages? It's like the tyranny of the majority...
