How Pinging Works

I'm more and more liking the idea of pinging Blogrolling. Having donated to the fine folks at Six Apart, I can ping movabletype.org, but Blogrolling is a lot more decentralized (and possibly effective? Weblogs on blogrolls are already pre-screened by your weblog of choice!) of an updated weblogs listing.
